Biography
Eva Schmidt is a French artist who built her practice from life drawing, then from drawing and painting the body, and evolved toward freer forms, imbued with color, movement, and sometimes abstraction. Her work illustrates a craftsmanship and artistic journey, closely tied to Paris and the tradition of drawing academies, while opening up to contemporary sensibilities.
Artistic approach
I paint because painting has become my way of looking at the world. Before holding a brush, I dreamed of dance, then I experienced theater and cinema. Very early on, I understood that emotion could be expressed through movement, a glance, a silence. Painting became obvious to me, a language where color, material, and light naturally extend this quest. My work does not seek to faithfully reproduce reality. I paint what moves me: a street in Montmartre bathed in light, a bouquet placed near a window, a landscape glimpsed around a corner, or a freer composition born from gesture and intuition. Each work is a meeting between the visible and the invisible. I like to leave room for silence, for breathing, so that each person can find a personal emotion, a memory, or simply the pleasure of contemplating. Over the years, my universe has been enriched by drawing, the body, landscape, collage, and abstraction. These paths may seem different, but they are nourished by a single quest: to reveal that inner light that transforms our way of looking at the world.
